Background[]

The Terminator 2 (also abbreviated as T2) THX trailer, sometimes called Terminator 2 Cavalcade, was the first known release of the Cavalcade trailer, as evidenced by the THX Ultimate Demo Disc. This trailer was created by Van Ling (as well as the reworked and the normal Cavalcade), and it was also redone by Ling for its debut in High Definition (HD).

Description[]

On a gray-black background with a bluish-grey environment (like the Cavalcade trailer), a blue orb of electricity (also known as the Time Sphere) appears, with it then turning into a blue light beam that scans the camera (akin to Terminator 2's trailer). A metallic rectangle with the T2 logo carved out then appears which starts slowly zooming towards the camera slowly as the famous "Terminator 2 Theme" plays. The T-800 (as can be seen in the reflection) then shoots the rectangle, which explodes into many tiny metal pieces. The "Escape from the Hospital" piece from the score then begins playing as the metal pieces transform into liquid and come together to form and reveal the THX logo, with the T-1000's theme morphing into the Broadway 2000 Deep Note (as can be heard from the extra voices in the Deep Note). A blue outline then shines around the logo, making a box that wavers light from it (much like the blue rectangle similar for the normal Cavalcade trailer, from Broadway).

Variants[]

  • SD versions of the trailer have the text "DIGITALLY MASTERED" (set in the Eurostile Extended Bold font) above and below the logo. After the THX logo fades out, the "The Best Sound... The Best Picture..." message appears.
  • HD versions (beginning with the 2006 Blu-ray release of Terminator 2) have the standard THX logo, with the text "CERTIFIED" (set in the Futura BT font) below it, most likely replacing the text "DIGITALLY MASTERED". The "The Best Sound... The Best Picture..." message was also replaced with the URL address for THX and the disclaimer. This is most likely due to these trailers being made before the Lucasfilm spin-off in 2002.
  • The PAL DVDs have the logo end on a slightly de-tuned D# as compared to the regular THX D#.

Trivia[]

  • The Deep Note in this trailer was also used in the Broadway 2000 trailer.
